So I had a cat that was 18 years old
he died yesterday
I've written about a couple of pets I've lost on this site before
but this one is different
I've had Singe since I was 18
I'm 37 now
by all means, he was like my son
Singe lived a good life
he didn't deserve to die the way he did
he was killed by two stray dogs
he loved to sleep outside in the front under our cars
because he was so old he had lost his hearing
and he would go into a deep sleep
we would drive up and he wouldn't even hear the car
we'd walk up on him and startle him
and he'd jump up and be a bit disorented
I know these dogs were going around the yard sniffing
and they must have came across him sleeping in a little ball
he didn't hear them and was in a deep sleep
they prob startled him awake and he might have ran
I saw the dogs still in the yard as I was leaving for work
these were two huge dogs
Singe didn't stand a chance
and according to books, agewise he was more like 80 years old
and he moved like it too
very slow
the neighbors saw the whole thing
they said he was tossed around like a rag doll
I can only hope that it was quick
they prob crushed his neck, if not broke it because he wasn't mangled or ripped apart
I found him when I was leaving for work
I saw two huge dogs in the lawn
I called out to my mom about the dogs
I looked for him and when I didn;t see him under any of the cars I figured he was inside or in the backyard safe
as I drove off I saw him in the yard
his front half was twisted up and his lower half was laying sideways
so I knew exactly what happened
I got off the truck and got up close hoping he was dead and not lying there suffering
then I had to go tell my mom who loved this cat as much as I did
but first I needed to call work to tell them I was going to be late
I'll never forget this, I couldn't dial the phone because I was shaking
I was in shock
I have to admit, that image of him in the yard has been burned into my brain
I kept seeing it at work all day
but I have to try and get that out and replace it with all of the good memories he gave me
like this one,
because he was deaf I had to figure a way to not scare him
which was very easy to do
so whenever I would approach him as he was looking away
I would use the flashlight on my phone to signal him on the ground with the light
he would see it and turn around and run to me
if it was during the day, I would use my shadow in the same way
a month ago he was outside during a particuarly cold night
then it started to rain
so I didn't want him getting sick so I tried to look for him
calling out to him was not going to work
so I flipped the porch light off and on
it worked
Singe knew exactly what I was trying to do and he came running in
he was loved and lived a very pampered life
I have to remember that
and to take it as close to the start as I can
here is the song he was named after,
with a slight variation of the spelling
so this is how I say goodbye to Signe
with the start
